This is the first argument ever made in print for photography as a record rather than a picture.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is a salted paper print from a paper negative: no glass, no plate, no sharp edge. The image sits in the fibres of the sheet, which is why the porcelain glows rather than gleams, and why the cups on the third shelf have gone soft where the light struck them hardest.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis mug carries a detail, not the whole plate: one vertical section of the shelves, from the top row to the bottom. The complete photograph is shown in the last product image.
