Why a pair

Most of these works were not made alone. Morris designed Strawberry Thief beside Kennet and Tulip; Hokusai cut the Great Wave and Red Fuji for the same series of thirty-six; van Gogh painted the same bedroom three times. Two mugs let the pairing show on the shelf, which is the argument for the set — not the price.

Three from a series

Where a series runs to three or more — Matisse, Morris, Bentley, van Gogh — the same set price applies to each mug in the basket.

What arrives

Fine porcelain, 10 oz, dishwasher and microwave safe. Each mug is printed and shipped from the facility closest to the delivery address, and shipping is free worldwide. A few days after the parcel arrives we send you a short piece on the work itself: who made it, how, and what to look for. It is written by an art historian and it is not an advertisement.

Every motif comes from an open-access museum file, named by collection and inventory number on the product page. Where a museum reserves commercial rights to its photographs, we do not print the work.
