Gifts

Mugs that carry as a present without needing the argument.

Everything in this shop has a documented source and a reason to exist. These are the ones that also work when you hand them to someone: the motif does the talking, and the person unwrapping it does not have to know why it matters art-historically to be pleased with it.

Three conditions decide what appears here. The image explains itself without prior knowledge. It has an occasion or a recipient — Christmas, a wedding, a reader, a collector, someone who watches birds. And it can be shipped to all five of our markets, because a gift that is unavailable where the recipient lives is not a gift.

Fine porcelain, 10 oz, dishwasher and microwave safe. Each listing names the work, its date, the institution that holds it and its rights position.
