On 21 February 1927 the Dornier Merkur CH-171 «Switzerland», flown by Walter Mittelholzer, touched down in Cape Town after 77 days and some 20,000 km from Lake Zurich — the first crossing of Africa by seaplane. The man standing on the nose, one hand on the propeller, is Oskar Schmid, grandfather of Tazzarte’s founder. The photograph runs right around the mug, so the aircraft appears full length.
Fine porcelain, 10 oz — 104 mm high, 75 mm across the base. The image runs around the body; handle and rim stay white. Dishwasher and microwave safe.
